Frederator Studios and Nickelodeon are teaming up again to deliver more hit cartoons for kids.
In the beginning… there was What a Cartoon! and Oh Yeah! Cartoons! Created by Fred Seibert, these two shows are Tv’s most successful short cartoon anthology series ever. Not only have these two programs helped launch the careers of some of today’s most prominent cartoon filmmakers, they gave Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon some of their biggest hits, proving that a lot can be accomplished in seven minutes.
Now Random! Cartoons is carrying the torch, delivering 39 brand new, funny, creator-driven, seven-minute cartoons for kids. Same philosophy, different name.
The series features the work of dozens of creators, more than 100 voice artists, and more than 300 cartoonists. If that weren’t enough info to make you all warm and fuzzy, this season is also the most diverse collection of shorts Frederator has ever produced. Unlike previous seasons, 2007 is “every short for itself”; the goal being to find 39 different properties rather than repeating characters in multiple shorts. The cartoons are also varied in styles and media, with traditional, CG, and Flash all in the mix. Finally, the folks behind the shorts are very different, too, and not only ethnically and culturally or in age and experience, either. Eight Random! cartoons are by seven women, a record percentage, which is sure to herald a fantastic new spin on the future of animation.
Random! Cartoons premiered on the Nicktoons Network in 2009. Already two hits have spun off. Eric Robles’ Fanboy & Chum Chum is Nickelodeon’s first original CG television show and has become the network’s #1 animated series. Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time has been an Internet phenomenon (with over 5,000,000 views) and a breakout on Cartoon Network. Keep tuned in, there’s more to come.
